pre + post treatment care

BROWS

How do I prepare for my brow appointment?

You will get much better results when you properly prep your skin. The eyebrow area must be healthy, strong, non-sensitive and non-irritated. Preparing for your appointment is just as important for good healed results as post care. Failure to follow pre-care may result in you being sent home the day of your appointment, so please read the following carefully! Here's how to get your skin ready for your brow procedure:

2 WEEKS BEFORE:

  • BOTOX:  Botox must be done at least 14 days prior to your appointment - this is not a requirement, you do not NEED botox. This is simply a guideline to plan accordingly if you receive Botox (or any injectables)

  • SKIN TREATMENTS/ HAIR: No waxing, tweezing, threading, facials, peels, laser treatments or electrolysis 2 weeks prior to your appointment. We need your skin to be strong, non-sensitive and non-irritated. It actually is beneficial for me to see your brows grown out and in their natural state. I can clean them up during your appointment.

  • SUN EXPOSURE: Be mindful of sun exposure before your appointment, absolutely no tanning and no sunburned skin for your procedure. Not only will this be painful for you, but tanned or sunburnt skin is “damaged” skin, applying a tattoo to this WILL give you poorly healed results.

  • TOPICALS: Please refrain from using any retin-a products around the treated area for at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

  • ANTIBIOTICS:  You must finish any antibiotics two weeks prior to your appointment.

ONE WEEK BEFORE:

  • VITAMINS/ TOPICALS: No Fish Oil or Vitamin E one week prior to your procedure. These are blood thinners and will effect your bleeding during your procedure.

  • TINTING: If you regularly tint your brows and want to color match, please tint at least 7 days prior to your appointment.

24 HOURS BEFORE:

  • NO ALCOHOL OR CAFFEINE To minimize bleeding during the procedure, please avoid any alcohol and caffeine.

  • BLOOD THINNING MEDICATIONS such as Ibuprofen and Advil should be avoided. These are blood thinners.

DAY OF YOUR APPOINTMENT:

  • PLAN AHEAD: Please check traffic, I do have a strict late policy. Please arrive 5 minutes early or on time to your appointment.

  • WASH YOUR HAIR: You will need to keep your brows dry for the next 10-14 days, washing your hair day before or day of is recommended so you’re not hassling in the shower for the first few days.

  • AVOID EXERCISE: This will increase the blood flow and cause excessive bleeding during the appointment - leading to poor healed results.

  • MAKEUP: This is totally your preference, we will be taking photos, so please come however you are most comfortable. If there is a certain way you fill in your brows, it is helpful to see how you are used to shape and color. them.

What is the aftercare for my brows?

Aftercare is SO important. After leaving your studio, your results are 100% up to YOU! It is very important to follow these instructions for the FULL 14 day healing period to ensure proper healing and color retention. Results will vary for all individuals and we cannot guarantee your results.

DAY OF APPOINTMENT:

  1. Wash your brows for the first time within 2-4 hours of your brow procedure.

  2. Pat dry with a disposable paper towel

  3. Apply a light layer of balm.

  4. Repeat the cleansing and balm right before bed.

Cleanse morning and night for 7-10 days or until the flaking has stopped. Apply balm 3 times per day for 2 weeks (if oily 2x per day)

HOW TO CLEANSE YOUR BROWS:

• Make sure to wash OUTSIDE of the shower and in front of the mirror to ensure you are washing the entire brow area

• With CLEAN hands and fingertips gently wet your new brow tattoo

• With your fingertips, using the soap provided in your aftercare kit, create a small lather

• Apply the suds to your brows following the direction of the hair growth. NO circles or hard rubbing!

• Rise well with cool water (making sure to get ALL of the soap residue off)

• Pat dry with a clean paper towel

HOW TO APPLY YOUR OINTMENT/BALM:

• NEVER on wet skin. Make sure your brows are completely dry before application

• Using a Q-Tip and a rice grain sized amount - apply your ointment/balm directly to your brow tattoo, following the direction of the hair growth

• Be sure to use a LIGHT amount as you want the skin to be able to breathe

• With the ointment/balm the brows should NEVER appear shiny

• If over-applied this could delay the healing process and hinder your results

• If you are unsure, take a clean tissue and lightly blot the area

IMPORTANT TIPS:

• KEEP DRY (no shower water, sauna, hot tub, lake, ocean AND SWEAT) until completely healed. AKA no scabbing or flaking left (About 10 days)

• KEEP DRY in the shower! Steamy hot showers will cause the pores to open and scabs to soften. AVOID the water especially shampoo and conditioner running down your face- this WILL cause color discoloration! (Try to limit shower time 5-7 min)

• DO NOT sweat excessively for 10 days. Sweat contains salt and can infect and prematurely fade your brow tattoo during the healing process. Salt in the sweat will alter the color of your tattoo!

• NO makeup, lotion, or face wash on them, until completely healed.

• DO NOT pick, rub or scratch scabs!

• AVOID direct sun exposure for 2 weeks

• NO ANTI-AGING OR ACNE PRODUCTS EVER!!! (Anything with Retinol, Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid, etc) on your brow tattoo EVER! This WILL cause fading and color discoloration VERY quickly.

• Please consult a physician at the first sign of abnormal swelling or infection

WHAT TO EXPECT

• DO NOT expect your brow tattoos to heal perfectly after the first session. ALL brow procedures are a two-step process. The first session is used to build shape and gain symmetry and the second session is used to perfect the brows and add density. It takes time, BE PATIENT. During your 10 day healing process, your brows will change and appear different from day to day.

• Immediately after your procedure, brows will appear darker and more defined. This can last up to 2 weeks. Your brow tattoo can appear more solid, hair strokes may seem to disappear and it may look wet and painted on.

• Around 4-5 days you will start to experience flaking and your brows may look dry. DO NOT PICK your brows, let any flakes and dryness fall off naturally. If picked you will be pulling our your pigment, causing patchy brows and can lead to scarring.

• Your brow tattoo will take up to 4 weeks to fully heal. When the flaking comes off the hair strokes may seem faint or non-existent, this is because a fresh layer of skin has healed over the brow tattoo. Give your brows a few weeks and the hair strokes will become clearer. Color will continue to change on a daily basis until all healing is complete at the 4 week time period.

• Not everyones hair stroke brows can heal clean and crisp. Hair-strokes for oilier skin types can sometimes heal more solid and powdery while drier skin types tend to heal very crisp and defined. Also for clients who tend to bleed more may need additional touchups as blood pushes out the pigment while we tattoo.

LONG TERM CARE

• Use at least SPF 50 to protect your brows, sun exposure WILL cause fading and can alter the color of your tattoo

• DO NOT use chemical exfoliants on the brows, this WILL cause fading

• DO NOT laser your brow area, some lasers may change color of pigment

• As the tattoo fades, the strokes will get fainter and less defined

• Maintenance is required to maintain desired results. Touchups are done every 9-18 months to maintain your cosmetic brow tattoo

• Hair-stroke brows typically last 1-3 years. Powder/Ombré brows typically 2-3 years.

LIP BLUSH

Here's how to get your lips ready for your procedure:

Your lips cannot be dry for the appointment. If they are dry we will need to reschedule and you will forfeit your deposit. You may exfoliate 3 days before your appointment to remove any dry skin. You can use a lip scrub or create your own using a little honey and brown sugar. For the week leading up to the appointment you must moisturize your lips as much as possible. (I recommend using Aquaphor)

IMPORTANT:

Cold sores are a risk of lip blush tattoo. If you have had a cold sore in the past - we advise you to go to the doctor for an antiviral medication prior to any lip procedure, to help avoid an outbreak.

Even if you have not had a cold sore before - I recommend all of my clients take L-Lysine 2 weeks before the appointment and 2 weeks following the appointment to reduce the risk.

In order to avoid excessive bleeding and poor color deposit:

•DO NOT drink alcohol 24-48 hours before your cosmetic tattoo

•DO NOT consume any type of caffeine before your procedure

•DO NOT take an Aspirin or Ibuprofen for pain relief (these also thin the blood)

What is the aftercare for my Lip Blush tattoo?

AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT

Lips will feel swollen and very dry after your treatment. Apply ointment on lips several times a day. This should be done for at least 14 days post treatment. Do not allow lips to become dry. This may interfere with healed color. During the day if lips feel dry, apply a liberal amount of ointment. Just tap on skin and do not rub in. Always use a clean Q-Tip, not fingers to apply ointment to area. This will reduce the risk of infection.

AFTERCARE:

1) Wash morning and night with mild soap

2) Apply aquaphor every 30-45 minutes

After lips are no longer tender to the touch they may become flaky. Ths is normal and is expected. Please do not pick or scratch at them. This may significantly reduce the amount od pigment absorption. Avoid the sun and tanning beds pre and post procedure. Be sure to use a sunblock once lips are healed. Redness, swelling, tenderness, dryness are all common post treatment side effects and will dissipate in a short period of time. Avoid oily, salty, acidic foods and alcohol while healing.

Lips are a muscle and may require a touch-up session to complete the process of this procedure. Lips are unpredictable. Some clients will yield very strong healed lip color. Others will only heal with slight color uptake. This will vary on an individual basis. Clients with sun damage, scar tissue (from injury or fever blisters) and clients with implants may not have strong results. Hyperpigmentation can happen on any lip client without warning. If you have a history of fever blisters, cold sores or chicken pox, we advise you to go to the doctore or for an anti-viral medication prior to any lip procedure, to help avoid an outbreak. Follow all before and after instructions after all lip treatments. Lip retouch must be scheduled 6-8 weeks apart from the initial session to help with color retention.

Lips heal in three stages: Too dark - Too light - Just right. This takes one month to happen. Please avoid any friction to lip area.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

• There may be moderate swelling, redness and bruising for the first 3 days

• If you experience swelling, use an ice pack for no more than 15 minutes at a time to reduce swelling

• During the initial healing period, there should be minimal scabbing or flaking of the skin. If there is some scabbing or flaking, do not pick, and allow the scab and dry skin to come off on its own. This usually takes place within the first 3 days.

• Expect the color to lighten up 50-70% once the healing process is complete.

• Color may appear uneven at different stages of healing. Be patient. This is a process that does not yield immediate results

• Permanent makeup ink is not the same as body art ink, and be design it does not last as long as body ink. Permanent Makeup does fade and is expected to ast 2-5 years before requiring a touchup. Maintenace touchups are suggested for the best results.

• It will take two sessions prior to achieving the level of saturation you may desire.
